GoaFest 2011: Lynn de Souza leads 2011 Committee; event planned for April 7-9

And it is GoaFest time again. Leading the festival this time is Lintas Media Group’s Chairperson and Vice President, Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI), Lynn de Souza. The event is planned for April 7, 8 and 9, 2011. The Industry Conclave will take place on April 7, 2011, followed by two days of GoaFest. It is understood that the venue this year would be South Goa.

The GoaFest committee also includes DraftFCBUlka’s Nagesh Alai, who is also the AAAI President; Leo Burnett’s Arvind Sharma; RK Swamy Group’s Srinivasan Swamy; Euro RSCG’s Suman Srivastava; Lodestar UM's Shashi Sinha and McCann Worldgroup’s Prasoon Joshi.

In a conversation with exchange4media, de Souza explained, “GoaFest celebrates creativity and innovation in advertising and communication. For GoaFest 2011, we plan to explore and celebrate this across all the facets of marketing in a changed world, and to that end we will be offering a world class line-up of speakers from advertising and marketing companies. Some confirmations are already in. Promotion of the event will commence shortly, and when we reveal the event theme, you will get the whole picture.”

The responsibility for the Industry Conclave that precedes the event has been assigned to Srinivasan Swamy. Suman Srivastava is handling the seminars for the event.

LinOpinion has been roped in as the public relations agency. Seventy will be the event agency this time as well.

The last three years have seen GoaFest grow in stature, but also marred with accusations and negative publicity in context to the Abby Awards. It would be interesting to see how the new Committee handles these challenges, if the intention, as stated in previous years, is to give the festival a regional presence.

Speaking further on the awards subject, de Souza said, “Awards are critical to GoaFest, and in the recent past, they have also been the most controversial. We have spent many hours over the past few weeks addressing how we can improve the conduct and the process and develop stringent methods to ensure fair and ethical behaviour at every level. I think it will take a few more weeks before we finally reach some comfort level on this subject, and can begin the actual process of drawing up categories, calling for entries, etc.”
